Watchmen: San Diego Comic Con 2019

Promotion for the series is starting to expand as San Diego Comic Con opens this week. There won't be any Watchmen panels or appearances inside the Con (at least none that has been announced), but expect to see lots of photos posted by fans from the 2 off-site locations for their immersive "in-world experience" nearby. Enamel pins will also be given away. Could this tweet be a preview of what to expect at those sites? We'll find out starting tomorrow.

Hotel key cards at official Con hotels, pictured below from @englishmansdcc, will also have the Watchmen branding - and embedded QR codes. Fans who read the QR code will be taken to a secret tweet telling them they will be among the first to see the new Watchmen trailer (hint: you can read the code from these photos).

Twitter dropped some Watchmen hashtags today.

Also, Warner TV has a series of official Comic Con bags, including the designs below for the show.

Does all this mean that they might screen the trailer at the Con and then release it this week? Who knows. It's still a mystery, but it feels like we'll finally be getting something more substantial sooner rather than later. Maybe we'll even get a premiere date. Dare to dream.

Watchmen: What character do you think Tom is playing?

Watchmen: First Trailer Released

It's about time. Tick tock.

HBO has finally released something more significant than the micro-teases they've been posting on their Instagram account for the upcoming series. The trailer below brings us into the Watchmen world via foreboding, unsettling images of a gang of gun-toting Rorschach imitators and yellow-masked masked policeman. We see a leather-clad Regina King and Jeremy Irons as Ozymandias, but still no Tom (who is rumored to be playing Mime, from the Doomsday Clock series). The trailer pegs the premiere as being in the fall, but nothing more specific than that.

Watchmen: Is Tom playing Mime?

Lately there has been speculation afoot regarding the character Tom is playing in the upcoming HBO series. David Harris mentioned a certain possibility in an article about the series, and the information subsequently appeared in the IMDb listing for the show and on Tom's page as well. The character he is rumored to be playing is Marcus Maez, aka Mime, who appears in the Doomsday Clock series, a sequel to the original Watchmen. He and wife Erika Manson/Marionette (possibly played by Sara Vickers) have a terribly tragic backstory, and it would certainly be an exciting departure for Tom to play. No official announcement has been made from either HBO or Damon Lindelof, and no trailer has been released. So it seems very possible...but the production is shrouded in so much mystery, nothing should be taken for granted.

There is also still no official release date beyond it definitely being in 2019. Watchmen news has been slow to come, but with Game of Thrones ending imminently, HBO will hopefully throw its considerable promotional weight behind this new tentpole series soon, and we'll find out more about the characters and their storylines. The tiniest new glimpse of the series was released last Sunday, in the promo below.
